 European Day of Languages

​The European Day of Languages, that is commemorated on September 26, was proclaimed in 2001 by the Council of Europe and by the European Commission in order to promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe, raising citizens, companies and institutions’ awareness about the fact that learning languages is getting more and more essential for mobility, employability and personal development, as well as for development of democracies and intercultural dialogue.

The European Day of Languages is also BabeliUM’s birthday, on September 26, 2009.

 International Mother Language Day

​The International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1999 and it is yearly celebrated on February 21. The Institute of Arts and Humanities organize several activities, addressed to the academic community, in order to raise awareness about the importance of the mother language and to promote multilinguism as a factor of communication and preservation of the different existing languages in the world.
