The Center for Galician Studies, located in the Institute of Arts and Humanities, has been operating in the framework of a cooperation protocol between the University of Minho and the Xunta de Galicia since 1997, thanks to the initiative of Professor Vítor Manuel Pires de Aguiar e Silva.

The CEG is chaired by the ILCH Presidency and has a lecturer who teaches optional Galician Courses within the bachelor’s degree of the ILCH, and it annually organizes a wide range of activities for dissemination of Galician culture (Galicia Day in Braga, Encounter Minho-Galicia, Cultural Week Convergences Portugal-Galicia, and study trips to Galicia), as well as the program Galiza Mais Perto in Rádio Universitária do Minho (RUM 97.5).

One of its aims of the Center is to promote the cooperation between both regions Galicia-North of Portugal. The Center has videos, music and bibliographic records about Galician language and culture.
